Look, there are a lot of contradictory versions of the Arthurian legend. A LOT, even if we only count the medieval versions.

There are versions where Arthur is a king and versions where he’s a warlord. There are versions with the Round table and versions without. There are various versions where Guinevere is a kings daughter, has non-british anchestry, is three different women or has an evil identical half-sister whom Arthur falls in love with. There are versions where Guinevere and Arthur have a happy marriage and those where they don’t, sometimes they have children togehter and sometimes not.

Mordred may be the son of Arthur and his half-sister Morgause, Anna or Morgan(a) or he may not. Merlin is sometimes an old man and sometimes he isn’t. Sometimes there is no Lancelot. Sometimes Lancelot and Guinevere have TEH MOST EPIC LOVESTORY EVAH. Sometimes they have a more subdued relationship. Sometimes Lancelot is Guinevere’s champion but not her lover (because he’s to busy screwing the daughters/wives/nieces of the guys he keeps killing). Sometimes Lancelot is involved with one or several who may or may not be named Elaine and sometimes he isn’t.

Sometimes Arthur dies and is really, really dead, sometimes Morgan takes him to Avalon to rest until it is his time to return. Sometimes Morgan is a powerful healer, sometimes she’s an evil sourpuss. Sometimes Percival is the perfect, virignial Grail Knight and sometimes he’s a runner up and sometimes the author dies before Percival grown out of the awkvard country bumpkin phase (but has slept with a beautiful damsel).

So can you all please stop saying that Merlinshould follow the true story/real legend/original tale of King Arthur. When it is possible to say “I would like/have liked it if they had used that version” instead?
